Weekly Notices, Term 3, Week 6

Weekly Notices, Term 3 Week 6

Good Evening. Sorry about the late notices this week, I have been in Christchurch for my son's university graduation ceremony and clean forgot to post the notices on Sunday. Hopefully, nobody missed anything.

We are now into the second half of this term and on Thursday we are officially in Spring.  Lovely to see the daffodils flowering and blossoms beginning to appear.

Our students were involved in some awesome activities last week, our children just love the mud and wet on the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge and our Chess team played in a NZ Tournament in Tauranga and were placed 2nd and 6th out of 18. The team did very well in what was a tough tournament. On Tuesday we have a group of students playing in a Fluoro Golf Event,  Wednesday a group is playing in an online Chess Tournament, a group playing Chess in Taupo on Thursday and a different group playing on Friday in Rotorua. A 7s Rugby Team is playing a team from Otonga School on Friday afternoon. Amidst all this, we are full steam ahead practicing for our end of term production, Little Red Rockin Hood. The classes are all working very hard on their dances and the Rock and roll choir on learning all of the songs.

Save the date:

We are celebrating Grandparents Day on Friday 28th October at 9.00 am. We have Andrew Chinn here on that day too so we are hoping he will join us at Mass. He is a very talented musician who writes many of the songs that we sing as a school.

Hygiene and Viruses

A reminder that we all need to keep good hygiene measures at the forefront for our children. Please remind children to sanitise as they arrive at school, sanitise as they arrive in learning spaces after interval and lunch and sanitise when arriving back to classrooms from PE etc. We should also be encouraging them to cough into their elbows.

Play Provocations - The Arts

Mrs Tiedt did Visual Art activities, Mr. Bach did some spaceship construction craft, and made slime (which also involves Science) and Miss Bowie did Drama outside on the deck.

Weekly Notices, Term 3, Week 5

Welcome to Week 5, Term 3

Morena parents and caregivers on this lovely Sunday morning. The first hints of Spring are in the air with blossoms on trees, longer days, and a slight increase in temperature. We trust everyone is fine and that the big burst of viruses we have had spreading through classes over the first half of the term is nearly at its end. A reminder to keep your child at home if they are sick to halt the spread.

Tough Guy and Gal Challenge

On Thursday a number of children are involved in Tough Guy and Gal Challenge. If your child has registered for this event please make sure you are aware of the information about the day.

Chess Team Cake Stall

A Chess team is traveling to Tauranga on Friday with Mr. G and the Chess Club has organised a cake stall on Thursday at Morning Interval to raise funds for the team.

Junior School Cross Country

On Friday, after interval, Kakano has scheduled the Junior Cross Country, which includes Year 3 classes. Fingers crossed the weather is fine for this event.

RE Books

RE books were sent home with children a while ago with a whanau page to be completed by parents and caregivers. Thank you to those who have completed this, there were some lovely positive comments made in the books. Mr. Bach is still waiting for a few books to be returned. Could these books be returned to school ASAP please?

Things coming up this week:

Tuesday - Room 15 Library.

Wednesday - Room 16 and 17 Library. We also have Kapa Haka. Tough Guy and Gal Challenge.

Catfishing 2022

St Mary's has resumed checking catfish nets at Ohinemutu on Thursdays. Today we caught three juvenile catfish and an enormous eel. Finding juvenile catfish is disappointing because this means that the adults are now actively breeding in lake Rotorua.

Welcome to Week 4. What a beautiful day we've had. The All Blacks won, and it was convincingly too. Whew! The sun’s shining and in two weeks we will be into Spring.

Friday was a lovely celebration of Mary MacKillop. We had a wonderful mass where some very brave tamariki spoke in front of the church. Kia Orana

Welcome to week 3. It was lovely to have a sunny week last week where we could get outside to play and practice for cross-country. Thank you to parents for attending the 3-Way Conferences. This time spent discussing reports, progress and goals is valuable and all of our children were proud of their achievements.

Tomorrow is the  Feast Day of Mary MacKillop and we will be celebrating this on Friday with a Mass at 9:00 led by Kahikatea. This will be followed by fun activities.

Next Sunday, the parish has a Māori Miha (Māori Mass) at 10.00 am followed by a procession carrying the Statue of Mother Mary around the Church and our school. All students from the schools are invited to join the procession with their parents at 11.00 am in front of St Mary’s Church.

Eating Lunch before 3-Way Conferences

School finished early Tuesday for 3-Way Child-Teacher-Parent Conferences. The children from Rooms 15, 16, and 17 ate outside to keep the classrooms nice and tidy. It was interesting to note the different places that the children chose to sit and eat.
